Helena Janečić & Ana Opalić:
"Selfportraits"

Helena Janečić and Ana Opalić are two openly gay artists from Croatia. They were the first to candidly express their sexuality in their art work and display it to the public. Recently they had an exhibit which shook the ground of the predominantly hetero-normative artist society. This exhibit echoed positively with the gay community across Croatia. The word "gay" is usually presented with a bad connotation in Croatian media; this further inspired them to take action towards changing certain views. They worked together on a project called "Selfportraits", and came out with a creative and positive approach that refreshed artistic circles and lent support to the gay community.
