Action in support and solidarity with the LGBT community in Macedonia |

On Saturday, October 27, 2012, an action was organized in front of the embassy of the Republic of Macedonia in support and solidarity with the LGBT community in Macedonia. This protest was organized by members of the Association of Zagreb Pride as a response to almost daily violations of human rights of LGBT persons in the Republic of Macedonia. The action was attended by members of the Women's Room. |

Two-day training "Violence against Women" in Sarajevo |

On March 3 and 4, 2012, the Women's Room, in collaboration with the association "Women to Women" from Sarajevo (BIH) organized a two-day training for representatives of Centers for Social Welfare in Sarajevo. The training was attended by 26 persons who, over the course of two days, had opportunities to get educated about the issue of violence against women as well as about the protection of mental health of people who work with victims of violence. Training was held as part of the project "Violence against women, detect and prevent", implemented in partnership between the Women for Women and the Women's Room and funded through the Foundation Open Society Institute. The training was conducted by Maja Mamula, coordinator of the Women's Room and Maja Vukmanić, coordinator of the Center for Victims of Sexual Violence. We thank all the participants on their participation and the association "Women for Women" on cooperation. |

Invitation to promotion of research and brochure of the Women’s Room |

We would like to invite you to the promotion of the research and brochure of Women’s Room “Civil Society Organizations which Provide Specialized Services to Women Victims of Violence as Key Actors in the Process of Democratization of the Society” Throughout 2010, Women’s Room has, thanks to the support of the National Foundation for Civil Society Development, conducted research with the aim of identification of the number and accessibility of civil society organizations who provide direct assistance to women victims of violence in Croatia, insight into areas and forms of work, capacities, education as well as contributions which such organizations provide in the area of combating violence against women. Promotion will be held Nov 18th, 2010 at 4:00 PM In the European House, Jurišićeva 1 (Room Bruxelles).

WOMEN'S ROOM - CENTER FOR SEXUAL RIGHTS |

Women's Room is a non-governmental, feminist, non-profit organization established with the aim of empowerment of women and raising awareness of institutions and general public about women’s sexuality and sexual rights through education, research, advocacy and public work. The Women’s Room provides direct and indirect assistance and support to victims of sexual violence.
The vision of the Women’s Room is a society free from patriarchy, discrimination, misogyny and gender-based violence, where individual choice is the fundamental value.
AREAS OF WORK:
- Protection of human rights with an emphasis on women’s human rights;
- Combating sexual violence: development of public policy and effective practice in working with victims of sexual violence, direct work with the victims, and development of preventive mechanisms and programs;
- Promotion and protection of sexual rights pursuant to the Declaration of Sexual Rights, including the sexuality of women and sexual and gender minorities (LGBTIQ).
GOALS: - Elimination of against all forms of sex, gender and sexual discrimination;
- Empowerment of women in exercising their fundamental human rights;
- Prevention of sexual violence against women and sexual and gender minorities;
- Provision of direct help to women who have survived sexual violence;
- Promotion and protection of sexual rights pursuant to the Declaration of Sexual Rights;
- Introduction of comprehensive and inclusive sexual education based on scientific facts, at all education levels;
- Promotion of positive attitudes on female sexuality, sexual health and freedom of choice;
- Elimination of discrimination based on gender expression and/or identity, sexual orientation, and intersexual characteristics;
- Empowerment of LGBTIQ persons in exercising their fundamental human rights.

EDUCATION - Education areas: violence against women, sexual violence, trafficking in women for sexual exploitation, sex and gender, sexual rights, women’s sexuality, sexual and gender minorities;
- Education models: trainings, workshops, lectures, supervision, consultations, seminars, performances, concerts and other public events;
- Target groups: women in general, representatives of relevant state institutions, representatives of civil society organizations, youth, LGBTIQ population persons, society at large.
Number of beneficiaries of education organized by the Women’s Room in the period 2003-2010  SCHOLARLY RESEARCH Scholarly research conducted by the Women’s Room aims at better insight in the issues connected to the areas of work of the Women’s Room. The following research has been conducted (published) so far: - Attitudes of political parties on LGBT rights before the 2003 elections in Croatia (2003)
- Attitudes and knowledge of seniors in relevant university faculties on sexual violence (2004)
- Reality of Women’s Sexual Rights in Croatia (2005)
- Experiences of LGBTIQ population with psychosocial providers in Croatia (2005)
- Attitudes and experiences of psychologists towards LGBTIQ population (2005)
- The gender prism of the sexual rights of youth (2006-2007)
- Research on the issue of human trafficking in Croatia (2006-2008)
- Civil society organizations rendering specialized services to women victims of violence as key actors in the process of democratization of society (2010)
- Protection of rights and providing assistance to victims/witnesses of domestic violence (2010).
DIRECT WORK WITH VICTIMS OF SEXUAL VIOLENCE
The Centre for Victims of Sexual Violence provides direct and indirect support and support for victims of sexual violence, undertaking the following activities: - Support during the process of reporting sexual violence (accompanying the survivor to the police and hospital);
- Preparations for court proceedings;
- Counselling and therapy: crisis counselling (medical, legal and psychological), trauma-focused therapy, psychological counselling for family or friends of the victim;
- Development of and publishing different materials for victims.
PUBLISHING
Development of and publishing: - Flyers, postcards, stickers, bookmarks, planners, menstrual calendars and other promotional materials,
- Brochures, textbooks and books on sexual rights, sexuality and sexual violence;
- Translation and publishing landmark books in the area of sexual violence and sexual rights.

- Long term coordination of the Network for the Cooperation between Government Institutions and Non-Government Organizations against Sexual Violence;
- Development of the Regional network against sexual violence;
- Organization of a regional conference on sexual violence (June 2008);
- Active participation in the Working Group for Analyzing the Situation and Development of the Action Plan for Combating Violence against Women (the Office for Gender Equality of the Government of the Republic of Croatia) in their creation of the Protocol on conduct in cases of sexual violence;
- Development of different documents and participation in development of public policy against sexual violence (e.g. “Recommendations for changes related to sexual violence: legislative changes, protection of victims and development of prevention programs”, 2006;
- Development of efficient programs of support for persons who survived some form of sexual violence;
- Lobbying for changes in attitudes towards sexual violence in society;
- Organization of and participation in local and international seminars and conferences;
- Organization of the International Transgressing Gender Conference (October 2005);
- Lobbying and capacity building of non-government organizations and government institutions regarding sexual rights.
